We Are Wild- Roasted Cumin Seed Maple BBQ Sauce

A good conversation increases our life-force energy and changes our lives by connecting us heart to heart with another person wherever we may be.”

Sakyong Mipham Rinpoche

Perhaps you are reading this because you are barbequing or instapotting your meat and you need a BBQ sauce that is different. Or you are seeking a dressing or dip that will spark up your dish! For any of these options, this sauce is perfect, and like the quote above, BBQ’ing and BBQ sauces are a great addition to fun conversations! Enjoy this goodness, made with pure love!

Servings: about 7 oz of sauce, circa 2-3 big servings

The hot babe!

Ingredients

  • 1/2 tsp cumin seed
  • 1 7 oz jar of tomato paste
  • 3 garlic cloves minced or pressed through a garlic presser (or substitute with 1/2 tsp garlic powder or use both!)
  • 2 Tbsp of coconut aminos
  • 1/4 cup maple syrup
  • 2 Tbsp dijon mustard
  • 1/4 cup balsamic vinegar
  • 1/2 tsp maple flavor extract, optional
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 1/2 tsp cumin powder
  • 1/2 tsp red jalapeno chipotle powder or any spicy pepper powder that you have/like
  • 3/4 tsp pink salt or applewood smoky salt would be nice with this
  • 1/4 tsp white pepper ground
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper ground
  • optional: water or bone broth for changing the thickness of the sauce

Directions

  1. Roast lightly your cumin seeds over a cast iron pan for a minute in low flame, watch closely because they get hot fast, and you don’t want to burn them. Turn off after 1 minute, let the heat of the pan roast them lightly. Set aside.
  2. In a small pot gather all your other ingredients, mix them really well so that the spices and powders integrate well with the liquids. Be mindful of the amount of spicyness you want.
  3. Warm up the sauce, mixing it while you do this, until it reaches a slight simmer, turn off, sample your creation, adjust your flavors, adjust your thickness by adding a little bit of water (or bone broth- my favorite!) if necessary. It is now ready to be used as a BBQ sauce over your meats, as a side dip, or even mixing it with mayo for a unique dressing.
Perfect for various uses and ocassions!

Other Ideas

I really enjoyed experimenting with this sauce by adding bone broth to it and reducing its thickness. You can also reduce the amount of maple syrup by adding monk fruit for low glycemic sweetness. This sauce will go perfect with my Beef Ribs Instapot recipe which will be coming soon! Also this sauce keeps well for a few days or you can put it in a mason jar, label it, and freeze it for later use.

For my omnivore eaters, this recipe is coming soon! Beef Ribs Instapot easy ‘n fast with this yum BBQ sauce!

This recipe also pairs divinely for my vegan/vegetarian friends in the You Are Magnificent- Cumin Seed N Curry Yam N Parsnip Baked Fries. Or my soon to be published Mac ‘N Cheese Paleo Heaven which is Vegetarian and can easily be made Vegan!

Health Benefits

Spicy jalapenos can be a natural pain reliever, promote weight loss, and increase heat for the digestive process and food assimilation. Cumin seed improves gut mobility, boosts immunity, and contains lots of minerals.

*Coconut aminos are used often in Paleo recipes to replace soy sauces, steak sauces, etc. They are sweet and flavorful.

*Balsamic vinegar is imperative in any kitchen, you can use balsamic to make reductions that are incredible sauces over ice cream, for dressings, etc. My recipe is coming soon to create balsamic vinegar reductions!

*Maple flavor extract– so divine for baking donuts, muffins, pies, etc.
